Business Spotlight: T&R Meats

A Legacy of Quality in Clearwater

For over 20 years, T&R Meats has been a cornerstone of the Clearwater community, providing top-quality meats and exceptional customer service to area farmers, residents and visitors alike. Located on Pine Street, this family-owned and operated business has built a reputation for excellence, offering a wide range of products, custom processing services, and a personal touch that keeps customers coming back.

From premium cuts of beef, pork, and poultry, to specialty sausages and jerky, T&R Meats takes pride in delivering products that meet the highest standards of quality and freshness. When the business first opened in 2003, they had around a dozen items on their menu. Now, they have over 90 items on their menu. Their customer list has grown since those early years. T&R serves approximately 175 farmers per year with their custom processing services. Many have learned of the market simply through word of mouth. According to owners Randy & Marianne Galles, most of the farms that come to them for processing are within a 45-minute distance from the market, but some have come from as far as 2 hours. During Covid, they saw an incredible increase in demand for custom processing services due to supply chain issues that affected grocery stores and supermarkets.

T&R Meats isn't just a meat market; it's a place where traditions are upheld, and where the art of meat processing is practiced with care and expertise. This business is a part of Clearwater history. It first began as a co-op meat locker plant in the early 1940s, located across from what used to be a creamery, now currently Clear Waters Outfitting. From 1976 until 2003, the site was known as the Clearwater Locker, and was owned by the Waltzing family. Tom Neumann and Randy Galles bought the business in 2003 and named it T&R Meat Processing. Then in 2018, Marianne and Randy Galles purchased the business from Tom and Judy Neumann. Throughout the years, the exterior of the building has remained relatively the same, reminding residents and visitors of the history this business holds in our local community. Inside, Marianne and Randy have made several updates, including new equipment that helps lift cattle that weigh about 1100 pounds.

T&R Meat Processing is widely known in the local community and beyond. As a local business, they have participated in the Clearwater Heritage Festival parade throughout the years, as well as made donations to local fundraisers. The community, and its customers, have been a highlight for Marianne and Randy throughout their journey as business owners. Marianne and Randy shared stories of their children growing up at the business – recalling a memory of a game of hide-and-go-seek where one of their children hid in a coat hanging on the coat rack. They also fondly remember the familiar faces that regularly stop by the business, that have become part of their lives, and have watched their family grow. In addition to their loyal customer base, the business has roughly 14-15 employees at any given time, training and working side-by-side with Marianne and Randy. Their longest employee has been with them for at least 18 years.

The owners have put in countless hours over the years to make their business a success. A typical workweek includes butchering, prepping products, fulfilling orders, and all the cleaning and organizing that comes with running a business of this nature. Mondays are reserved for butchering, starting at 5:00 a.m., and work continues through the afternoons. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, they prep a variety of sausage and cut beef. Thursdays and Fridays are typically reserved for cuts of pork and sheep, with meat trays prepared for Friday meat raffles. Marianne’s advice for new business owners is: “Take time for yourself. That’s the biggest lesson we’ve learned.” Randy added, “Plan a vacation every year. Take it.”

After years of hard work serving the Clearwater community, the owners of T&R Meats are looking to pass the torch. They are seeking buyers who are passionate about continuing the legacy of this beloved local business. This is a unique opportunity for an individual or family to step into a well-established, thriving business with a loyal customer base and a strong presence in the community.

If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a business with deep roots in a growing community, T&R Meats could be the perfect opportunity. Not only would you be acquiring a successful business, but you’d also be becoming a part of a community that values tradition, quality, and personal connection.
